WHAT IS PILATES?

Pilates is an intelligent form of exercise. Connecting mind and body, it is a technique designed to improve whole body health. With an extensive and varied repertoire of movements, Pilates is designed to build strength, increase flexibility and awaken mobility in the body. Through building personal awareness of movement we are able to improve our movement strategies thus our physical efficiency and ability.

Created in the early 19th Century by a pioneering Joseph Pilates the technique has gone from strength to strength evolving alongside science and evidence based practice.

HOW IS IT TAUGHT?

Pilates is taught in several ways; on the Mat, with or without small props, in group classes or 1:1 sessions, and on specifically designed Pilates studio equipment. Here at Dynamic Osteopathy we teach 1:1 and 1:2 client sessions focusing on individual needs. We teach on both the studio equipment (Studio Reformer with Tower, Combo Chair, Spring Board, Spine Corrector) and on the Mat, using many small props such as massage balls and foam rollers to facilitate movement.
